As usual, Holmes’s superhuman ability to draw patterns from facts is a source of great narrative tension and delight. As is typical in Doyle’s stories, Holmes and the reader are presented with the same body of evidence, and yet Holmes solves the case well before the story’s conclusion. The scene of the crime is seemingly contained, offering no avenues of entrance or exit. “The Adventure of the Speckled Band” represents an example of a “locked-room” mystery. Strange sounds and sights around the house arouse her suspicions and send her to 221B Baker Street. Troubled by the perplexing death of her betrothed twin sister two years ago, Helen is now set to be married herself. Helen lives with her stepfather, Grimesby Roylott, a doctor with a violent temper and a mysterious former life in the Indian colonies. The case begins when Sherlock Holmes is approached by a young woman named Helen Stoner. First published in 1892, “The Adventure of the Speckled Band” is a classic entry in Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series.

But what does the Night Gardener do while the household is caught in nightmares and how is he connected to the tree? Will Molly and Kip be able to escape? The gifts both satisfy and kindle the deepest desire in the recipient, making them dependent on the tree. The force at work on them gradually effects Molly once she finds a doorway to a magic room where the tree bestows gifts. The only work Molly can find is at a creepy manor partially overtaken by a large, evil-looking tree and inhabited by a pale and sickly-looking family. Short Summary: The Night Gardener is the story of Molly and Kip, an Irish brother and sister who find themselves alone and friendless in an 1800’s England. This book had me hooked till the end and left me thoughtful. But I don’t think the point of this story is to scare. It’s right in the title: The Night Gardener: A Scary Story. The book I’m telling you about today is a self-admitted scary story. How do you feel about scary stories for kids? When I was a kid, Goosebumps was a popular series, but, honestly, Nancy Drew was too suspenseful for me! On the other hand, my daughter loves “scary” books (at the same age that I couldn’t handle them). Unbeknownst to Tiki, she is being watched-and protected-by Rieker, a fellow thief who suspects she is involved in the disappearance of the ring. With the ring missing, a rebel group of faeries hopes to break the treaty with dark magic and blood-Tiki's blood. For the ring belongs to Queen Victoria, and it binds the rulers of England and the realm of Faerie to peace. One December night, Tiki steals a ring, and sets off a chain of events that could lead to all-out war with the Fey. Their only means of survival is by picking pockets. The year is 1871, and Tiki has been making a home for herself and her family of orphans in a deserted hideaway adjoining Charing Cross Station in central London. Then there's Olly - where can I find one like him for myself?! He's funny, sweet, loyal, caring and dammit, my expectation for guys have been raised yet again. There are so many excellent quotes for book lovers in this book that will have you screeching "SO ME".which is exactly what I did. Not only that, but she adores reading because that's how she learns about the world and about life - and her self. I utterly adored her! She's such a unique character - she's kind, she's innocent, she's so incredibly brave and I absolutely loved the way her voice and her personality shone through the pages. I'll start off with the main character, Maddy. I should probably stop blabbering on about how much I loved this and tell you why. It was so incredibly well-written and it just made me feel so much. From the tragic topic, to the breathtaking romance, the characters who left imperishable footprints on my heart and the lyrical writing which snatched my breath away – Everything, Everything is all you've been wanting in a novel. Let alone is it a book that's one of the best I've read this month, it's one of the best I've read this year. It's no secret that I adore contemporary novels and after having read many, I can safely say this has made my top ten. That comment almost made me put down the book because it was so insensitive towards dark skinned women(like myself) I couldn’t believe a black writer would call dark skin trendy as if people can be in and out like fashion. As if having dark skin is all of a sudden trendy and like dark skinned women are suddenly in the same league as women of other races. Once when the heroines best friend said that it was hard for regular black girls to get looked at with dark skinned women, Latinas and Asian girl being trendy. Let me start by saying there were a few comments that really bothered me that made me almost want to put the book down. I’d been in a romance funk lately reading a ton of books that just felt blah to me but I’m so glad I made the time for this one because it blew my mind. I was ecstatic to learn this would be on audio and when I tell you I stalked audible for weeks leading up to its release, I checked EVERY DAY! So about the book. So I’d been wanting to read this book for a very long time because I loooove AA romance to pieces but I’ll admit my love for audiobooks is stronger□□♀️ Many AA contemporary romances don’t have audio accompanies so often I will overlook them because often I don’t have time to read ebooks. The 7 Habits not only serves as a guide for teens to improve their self image, build friendships, resist peer pressure and achieve goals, but it offers hope. When I recently read about a teenager committing suicide because of stress over homework and another who shot his father due to pressure to succeed in athletics, I realized that more books for teenagers are needed. With school, hours of homework, athletics, jobs, clubs, helping at home and more, we barely have time to breathe. Today’s teens are busier and more stressed than ever before. Sean Covey has followed in his famous father’s footsteps (Stephen Covey is the author of many self-help books) and written the definitive success guide for teens, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. If you’re already curious as to what to expect, here’s the official description from Bloom Books: Zeus and Hades has somehow fallen into the middle of it. But this couldn't be a re-telling without some other gods coming into the fold and stirring up some trouble. Not only that, but the second book, A Game of Retribution, is coming out on and features even more intense moments between the two legends. Most people have already heard of the mind-blowing Hades x Persephone series, but did you know that Scarlett actually has a companion series that goes along with it?! It feels like the author-who has made us all fall in love with the story of Greek mythology's biggest lovebirds all over again-has not slowed down ever since she first released A Touch of Darkness back in 2019, but things are clearly just getting started. Clair is bringing us back to the Underworld for another fun and steamy adventure with Hades and Persephone. |
